Lily Pad

A couple of Saturdays ago, a group of my friends and I went on a degustation adventure.  We left Magallanes at around 1030am and reached Calamba Laguna around 1230pm.  It shouldn’t have taken that long except that SLEX was under repair.

Our destination was Lily Pad, an origami house made especially for Barbara Tweetums Gonzalez by Architect Jorge Yulo, and now a weekend retreat for food lovers and, of course, nature lovers as well.  The house sits on the middle of a fish pond where an abundance of fish resides.

The degustation menu was deliciously prepared by Tina Tan.  Upon our arrival, we were welcomed with freshly squeezed dalandan juice and appetizers of bacalao in tomato sauce and chili relleno.  For starters we had fresh greens with home-made ceasar salad dressing sprinkled with crunchy bacon bits. and followed by a buffet spread of sauteed mushrooms served on a bed of spaghetti noodles, melt-in-your-mouth lengua with gravy, crispy duck from Oscar’s Farm served with home-made plum sauce (I detected a hint of cinnamon and star anise in it) capped off with a scrumptious apple pie with very flaky crust and freshly brewed coffee.   I just wished there was vanilla ice cream (Haagen Dazs preferred) to make my apple pie ala mode.

It was an afternoon of delectable food, abundant red wine, witty conversations and hearty laughters.  What is food without friends to share it with.
